The guides that work with Canyon Outfitters are more than just expert oarsmen & fishermen. Our guides are well versed in the history, archaeology and geology of the canyon. They make fine camp chefs as well. From baiting your hook and coaching you on the finer points of inflatable kayaking to safely rowing through some of the biggest whitewater in the west, our guides provide the knowledge and enthusiasm to leave you with a truly memorable vacation.

Introducing...;

Derek:

Derek, our lead guide, joined us after a stint in the military 19 years ago. During his winters he has attained a degree in Geology and then a Masters Degree in Fine Arts from the University of Hawaii. He specializes in ceramic sculpture and operates a studio in La Grande.

Art:

Relatively new to professional guiding, Art has been running Hells Canyon for more that 30 years with family and friends. Art's skill with a fillet knife and a freshly caught bass is legendary, not to mention his 101 ways to cook a fish.

Kevin:

A career as a professional glass artist and bartender keep Kevin busy between guiding on our float trips during the summers. Kevin is our resident barman on the Massage and Martinis trips and posseses the skill necessary to make the perfect Martini...

Eric:

Eric was born and raised here in Pine Valley and attends college in Montana in the off-river season. A future in mechanical engineering is his goal. We think of him as the best trail-builder Hells Canyon has ever seen!

Craig:

Craig has been with Canyon Outfitters for more years than any of us can remember! Beside helping get food organized, Craig is our 'detail' guy. He takes care of the last minute paperwork and makes sure that everyone is organized and ready to go. His other life is ranching here in Pine Valley. We don't know how we'd manage without him! 

George:

30 years of guiding in Hells Canyon and a history of more that 600 multi-day river trips make George Hells Canyon's most experienced river guide and a virtual walking, talking history book!

We are proud of  the Canyon Outfitters crew and consider them to be the best on the river, in fact, we think of them as family!
